Company Requirements
CU Boulder Affiliation
Companies applying must (one or more of the following):
1. Have a founder, or major investor who is a CU Boulder alumni, employee, or donor.
2. Be based in Colorado.
3. Be licensing technology from CU Boulder.
Geography
Companies applying must be headquartered in the United States incorporated as a C-Corporation.
Stage & Attributes
Companies must be early stage, raising pre-seed or seed equity capital (or SAFE/note) of at least $250,000.
When screening opportunities for presentation to investor members, the Boulder Angels team looks for the following attributes:
- A large market opportunity
- A unique value proposition
- Proprietary technology, intellectual property, or other basis for sustained competitive advantages
- A dedicated management team
- A corporate structure that allows for equity investment at defined terms and conditions (C corp)
- A strategy and plan that has the potential to produce venture grade returns
Vertical
We are industry-agnostic, but we tend to avoid long exit cycles and highly capital intensive verticals. For example, SMB SaaS with proven traction would be a better fit than a medical device or therapeutic.
